Diet and nutrition are an important part of managing digestive concerns. At Oshi Health, our registered dietitians (RDs) work with you and the rest of your care team to help you find lasting relief—and stay nourished. When you work with an Oshi RD, you’ll get personalized nutrition guidance, including help with finding and avoiding potential food triggers, choosing gut-friendly supplements and recipes, and more.
At Oshi Health, we understand there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to digestive health—and no “best” gut-friendly diet. We also know that diet is a critical part of achieving long-term symptom relief and keeping your nutritional needs in check.
And if you’ve noticed how your gut acts up after eating certain foods, you’re probably intimately aware that your diet can impact how you feel. But navigating meal time and deciphering dietary advice can feel daunting if you live with digestive concerns—whether they’re occasional or chronic. That’s where Oshi GI registered dietitians (RDs) come in.
RDs are nutrition experts with nationally recognized credentials from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Becoming an RD involves earning a master’s degree and completing thousands of hours of supervised clinical practice.
And Oshi Health GI-specialized dietitians aren’t just nutrition pros. They’re experts in digestive health. Advanced training in gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms and conditions gives them a deep knowledge of GI physiology and clinically-proven dietary interventions for gut health conditions.
The goal? To help you achieve lasting GI symptom relief while ensuring you stay well-nourished.

How Oshi RDs set you up for success
Working with an Oshi registered dietitian isn’t just following a meal plan. Our RDs use evidence-based nutrition care tailored to your specific needs, including:
- A well-balanced, nutritionally optimized care plan
- Supplement recommendations, if needed, to ensure you meet all your nutritional needs
- Elimination diet guidance when necessary to identify food triggers
- Diet education specific to your GI condition with access to a library of resources
Why you should work with a GI-specialized registered dietitian
Your first appointment with Oshi Health will be with one of our expert GI providers who specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of the GI tract. Oshi GI providers include advanced practice providers (APPs), like nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who work under the guidance of a gastroenterologist.
Together, you’ll discuss the option of adding a registered dietitian (RD) to your care team. If you both feel like you could benefit from specialized dietary guidance, they can refer you to an Oshi registered dietitian.
Most of our patients work with an RD, based on their unique needs and because we believe that dietary care is a crucial element of GI care. And it’s not just about calming digestive troubles—though that’s one of our goals. It’s about empowering you with food choices that nurture your overall health and quality of life.
Our collaborative approach is proven to lead to better outcomes than traditional GI care alone.
Plus, Oshi patients are living proof that dietary support works. Working with a GI-specialized dietitian gives patients confidence in their food choices, allowing them to thrive in situations like traveling and dining out that once triggered anxiety and GI discomfort.

Setting up your first virtual visit with an RD is easy. With Oshi, you don’t have to wait months to get access to GI-focused dietary care. Appointments are available every day of the week, including evenings and weekends, so you spend fewer hours, days, and weeks in discomfort—and it’s all from the comfort of your home.
The Oshi difference
Our registered dietitians all have a wealth of GI-specific knowledge and expertise. Meaningful time with—and quick access to—an RD means better symptom control. Plus, our comprehensive team approach leads to better care overall—no more retelling everything to every healthcare professional you meet. Everyone on your Oshi care team is in the loop. And our RDs do more than address your symptoms. They consider the whole you, including your lifestyle and dietary preferences.

What to expect from your first visit with an Oshi RD
Your initial session is all about laying the groundwork for your personalized dietary care plan, and it lasts around 45 minutes. Here’s what to expect:
Intros
Your first session will kick off with friendly introductions so you and your RD can get to know each other before diving into the nitty gritty of GI nutrition. Your RD will also outline what you can expect from your first visit and beyond, giving you the rundown on the Oshi Health approach to dietary care.
Next, your RD will dive into:
- Your health background
- Any GI symptoms you’ve been experiencing
- Your nutrition-related goals
Understanding your history and goals helps in crafting a diet plan that addresses your specific challenges—whether you’re dealing with unexplained, occasional, or chronic symptoms.
Whenever possible, they’ll review your chart before your visit so they can focus on listening to and considering the whole you.
Dietary education and care plan
This portion of the visit will focus on discussing your current eating habits and food choices and how they might relate to your symptoms.
And don’t worry, no food shaming here! It’s about making connections and understanding how certain foods could be playing a role in how you feel.

As you discuss your diet and nutrition, your RD will provide insights and education on dietary interventions that might be part of your care plan—like why eating more frequent, smaller meals could help with digestion or how increasing hydration is key to better gut health.
Next, it’ll be time to create a gut-focused game plan. Using SMART goals—specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound—will help you set realistic diet-related targets on your gut health journey.

Wrap-up
Before wrapping up, your RD will answer any burning questions and discuss next steps, like scheduling your next appointment to check in on your progress.
And you won’t be left in the dark between visits. You can stay connected to your care team with unlimited messaging via the Oshi Health app.
The Oshi difference
RDs can offer support with symptom management and dietary changes. And they collaborate closely with GI providers and gut-brain specialists to address every aspect of your gut health.
Preparing for your Oshi RD visits
You’ve just scheduled your first RD visit. How exciting! Preparing for your appointment is a great way to ensure you get the most out of each session.
Your RD might ask questions about:
- Typical meals you like to eat
- How frequently you eat throughout the day
- Whether any foods tend to aggravate your symptoms
- Whether you have a history of an eating disorder or disordered eating
It can help to bring along a detailed log of your meals, details about your fluid intake, or notes on any GI-related discomfort. Don’t have that info handy? Not sure how to keep track and feeling overwhelmed? Don’t worry! Your RD and the rest of your care team are here to support you in figuring out the best way to monitor your dietary habits and gut health symptoms.
The Oshi difference
Oshi Health registered dietitians, GI providers, and gut-brain specialists work together for you, communicating with each other about your progress—because managing your care shouldn’t feel like a full-time job.
What to expect from ongoing support visits
When you work with an Oshi Health registered dietitian, you’re getting supportive, ongoing dietary care tailored just for you.
You’ll meet with your registered dietitian over the course of a few weeks to months, depending on your wants and needs. And we’re always here down the road if you need us!
After your first visit, each session lasts about 30 minutes—easy to fit into your busy schedule but plenty of time to go over how you’re feeling and adjust your care plan if needed.

During these check-ins, you and your RD will review your symptoms, discuss your dietary intake, and evaluate your progress toward your nutrition goals—adjusting your care plan as needed to provide you with the best support. There will also be time for Q&A so that you can get answers to any pressing food and digestion questions.
Before the session ends, you’ll have clear next steps, and if you feel like you need additional support, you’ll schedule your next visit.
