At Oshi, GI providers work with you and the rest of your care team to get to the bottom of your gut health issues and find solutions that fit your goals, needs, and lifestyle.
We know that digestive health isn’t one-size-fits-all. Often, symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation don’t follow a clear rulebook—even when you have a diagnosis.
That’s why your first Oshi Health visit is with a GI provider. Gastrointestinal (GI) providers have advanced training and knowledge in the full spectrum of digestive disorders—from IBS and acid reflux to bloating and constipation.
Our GI providers take the time to truly listen and understand your history, your symptoms, and how everything fits together to provide you with a diagnosis (if needed) and a comprehensive treatment plan.

How Oshi GI providers set you up for success
Our GI providers take a clinically-proven, team-based approach to bring you lasting relief. Here’s what that entails:
- A diagnosis (if you’re coming to Oshi without one) and a personalized treatment plan
- Education to help you better understand your gut health symptoms and/or condition(s)
- Referral to an Oshi registered dietitian and/or Oshi gut-brain specialist, if it makes sense for you
- Medication or supplement recommendations based on your unique needs
- Ongoing support whenever you need it
What is a GI provider?
Oshi GI providers are licensed and trained advanced practice providers (APPs)—including nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates, also known as physician assistants or PAs—who specialize in GI conditions and work closely with gastroenterologists on your care.
Both NPs and PAs have advanced clinical education and training. They can diagnose and treat conditions and also prescribe medications.
At Oshi, their role is to work with you to create a treatment plan that’s tailored to your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals—and grounded in science.

Oshi GI providers have:
- Advanced degrees and years of training in inpatient and/or outpatient GI-focused care
- Experience in diagnosing and managing a range of GI symptoms and conditions
- Ongoing mentorship and collaboration with board-certified gastroenterologists
- Knowledge of the latest research and treatments in digestive medicine
The Oshi difference:
We know how hard it can be to see a gut health specialist. Or even to know where to start looking for one! Long waits, confusing referral systems, and uncertainty about what kind of care you need can leave you feeling stuck. With a GI provider as your first point of contact, you get quick access to expert care—including visits on evenings and weekends.
How Oshi GI providers approach diagnosis
We meet you where you are, whether you’ve had extensive testing in the past or you’re just starting the search for answers. You don’t need to arrive with a stack of lab results or a clear diagnosis.
Your Oshi GI provider will take the time to consider the whole you. That includes:
- Looking at your medical history, including any past labs, imaging, surgeries, or medical procedures
- Asking about your symptoms (when they started, how they affect your daily life, and whether anything seems to be a trigger)
- Exploring lifestyle factors like stress, diet, sleep, and movement
- Considering your family history and other health conditions
I felt like it was the most time I have ever talked with any health care individual. I felt like I was listened to and learned more about my disease than I have in 20 years.

Based on your unique needs, they can refer you to an Oshi gut-brain specialist or registered dietitian (RD).
Your provider will collaborate closely with your broader care team—whether that’s another Oshi specialist or an existing GI doctor—and with you to create a personalized treatment plan.
From there, if it makes sense for you, they may suggest additional testing, like:
- Blood work to check for inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, or other markers
- Imaging studies or scopes, if they’re needed, based on what you’re going through
- Other specialized tests, depending on your unique symptoms
The Oshi difference:
At Oshi, we know digestive issues can be complex, and what works for one person might not work for another. That’s why we take a whole-person approach to GI care. Your gut health is deeply connected to what you eat, how you feel, and the way your body responds to stress. Our GI providers don’t work in a silo. They work closely with GI registered dietitians and gut-brain specialists to make sure nothing gets missed.
Labs and testing—yes, even virtually
If your provider thinks testing could help get to the bottom of your GI symptoms, they can order labs or imaging, just like any doctor’s office. We’re also thoughtful about every test we recommend, making sure it’s truly necessary for your care.
The goal is to get the right information about what’s happening with your body, without sending you for unnecessary, expensive procedures.
And if in-person testing makes sense for you, our care coordinators are here to help. They’ll work with you to find convenient, in-network clinics or imaging centers.
The Oshi difference:
We take a thoughtful, personalized concierge approach to testing to avoid putting you through testing you don’t need. Because your care should be effective, not excessive.
Ongoing GI provider support
Living with GI symptoms can feel unpredictable. Some days are manageable, and others leave you wondering what’s going on inside your body.
Oshi Health GI providers are here for more than just the initial visit. You can connect with your provider as often as needed—whether for follow-up appointments, to talk through changes in your symptoms, or even to ask questions.
And if you’re in the middle of a flare-up (which can happen, especially early on in your care), your provider is just a click away.
They’ll help you adjust your care plan and get back to feeling good again.
