Welcome to Oshi Patient Stories, an interview series where we hear from the real people who have found lasting relief from digestive symptoms with Oshi’s virtual gastrointestinal (GI) care. In today’s interview, Jenny talks about how our multidisciplinary approach to GI care has changed her life for the better.
Jenny shares her experience with Oshi Health.
How were GI symptoms impacting your quality of life before you found Oshi?
My GI symptoms before hearing about Oshi were severe. I was pregnant with my 3rd baby, and I had two young children that I was taking care of. It was very difficult. I was probably about 6 months pregnant at the time that I started working with Oshi professionals, and I was constantly running to the bathroom. I did not know what to eat. I was in a place where mentally I was struggling because I didn’t know how to help myself.
And at that point in time, my flare had lasted about 3 years. I did not know how to move forward. I felt like my doctors that I was currently working with were helping me and doing the best that they could, but I felt like I needed additional care.
How has your life changed since working with Oshi? Is there anything you can do now that you couldn’t do before?
My life right now has changed for the better. I was able to work with a physician’s assistant who specialized in GI care, and I also worked with a dietitian who was able to help me make better choices with the foods that I was eating. And then lastly, I was working with a mental health professional who focused solely on the mental health and gut relationship.
I felt like I was able to better care for myself. I was able to release a lot of tension that I was building up in my mind about all of my symptoms. I was able to speak with my doctors and ask them better questions—questions that I didn’t even think of. My physician assistant, dietitian, and even my mental health professional were able to help me better express myself and my issues.
So when I was working with my gastroenterologist, I had this feeling that a certain medication was going to help me, and I had brought it up to him before, but I guess I didn’t have the confidence to really push that that medicine would be best for me. So after speaking with a physician assistant at Oshi, I stressed to my doctor that I felt that this would be best. And I was put on the medication.
Lo and behold, my flare symptoms virtually disappeared and this is while I was 6 or 7 months pregnant. The rest of my pregnancy went um almost flawlessly after that point.
What would you say to someone who is considering treatment with Oshi?
What I would say to someone who’s considering working with Oshi is: “Go for it.” Take this opportunity to work with many different fields of study to help your health.
GI care is so important and to have one company solely focused on your mental health needs, your physical needs, and your diet, to be able to work with all those different types of medical professionals can be the best thing you can do for your health. So take this opportunity and go for it.
