I always take a holistic approach to patient care as I know nutrition is just one piece of the puzzle. Addressing sleep, stress, and physical activity all play synergistic roles in contributing to a patient's health.

Emmylou Newell is a registered dietitian with over two decades of experience working across hospital, private practice, and community settings. At Oshi, she brings a practical, patient-centric approach to digestive care rooted in the belief that nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all. Emmylou focuses on helping patients achieve meaningful short-term symptom relief while also supporting longer-term goals for overall gut and heart health. Her care philosophy emphasizes realistic, sustainable habits that patients can actually maintain in their everyday lives.

Much of her career has been spent supporting aging populations and complex medical needs. She also has extensive experience in tube feeding management and problem-solving a wide range of gastrointestinal (GI) challenges.

Emmylou’s approach is grounded in the understanding that nutrition is only one piece of the digestive health puzzle. When working with patients, she considers stress, sleep, physical activity, and lifestyle habits alongside eating patterns. She believes that progress in GI care is built gradually, not overnight, and that consistency and collaboration are key to success.

Outside of work, Emmylou enjoys weightlifting, cooking for family, volunteering, and spending time outdoors skiing in the winter or enjoying lake life in the Pacific Northwest during the summer.

Eat more fiber by adding fresh or frozen berries at breakfast daily. Next, focus on adding raw, steamed, roasted, or sauteed vegetables at lunch and dinner. Aim to have these fruits and vegetables at all meals at least 5 days a week.
